A few days ago, ‘West Side Story’ actress Rachel Segler had responded to comments on her Instagram stating that she wasn’t invited to the Oscar 2022 awards night.
This caused a furor with other users and her fans on Instagram who expressed outrage over the fact that the actress of a movie nominated for Best Picture, and also the actress who won a Golden Globe award for the same movie has not been sent an invite.
She agreed with her fans and expressed her disappointment that she wasn’t invited but the news went viral on social media with people dissing the Academy for neglecting to invite one of the stars of a movie that has seven nominations this year.
Truthfully, as she is not nominated, the Academy has no obligation to personally invite her. It is up to the production studio to send out invites from the tickets allotted to them by the Academy.
Since the outrage was massive, Rachel even took to Twitter to post a conciliatory note for her fans. She thanked them for their support and reminded them that a lot of work goes into making a movie as well as planning an awards night. So, she wanted to cheer for her movie and invited her fans to do the same.
Apparently, the Academy is very sensitive to any kind of bad publicity this year and even though this one is not their fault, they seemed to have buckled under the enormous pressure from netizens and have decided to invite Rachel Zegler for the Oscar, as a presenter.
Rachel is currently in London shooting for Disney’s live-action movie, ‘Snow White’. The reports state that her production house is now scrambling to reschedule their shoot so Rachel can make it in time to attend the Oscars that she wasn’t originally invited to.
So, it looks like Rachel will be joining her fellow actors and crew members of Steven Spielberg’s musical movie, ‘West Side Story’. Rachel plays the role of Maria in the movie and the Movie has been nominated for seven Oscars including the big one – Best Picture.
The Oscars will go live on March 27, 2022 from the Dolby Theaters.
