Polish actor Patryk Vega, who is quite the box office champ in Poland with blockbusters like, ‘Women of Mafia’ and ‘Pitbull’ will soon be making his debut in the English language with the true-life story of Vladimir Putin’s rise to presidency in Russia.

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, the movie, whose current working title is ‘The Vor in Law’, is a reference to mafia term in Russian, similar to ‘the godfather’. The movie will follow the life of Putin right from his hardscrabble beginning in St. Petersburg all the way to the present and his attack on Ukraine.

Several people have deduced a connection between Putin’s links to organised crime when he was mayor of St Petersburg during the lawless time right after the fall of the Soviet Union. It seems likely given his authoritarian regime imposed on the general public since he became president.

Vega’s Polish movies have grossed over $100 million and will be fully financing this $12 million movie using private equity investors.

He has plans to shoot ‘The Vor in Law’ in Lithuania, Poland and Malta in 2023. Vega stated that he is looking to cast an American or an International actor to play the lead role of Putin and that remaining cast will mostly be sourced from Europe.

THR also reported that Vega said his current movie, ‘Autobiografia (Invisible War)’ will likely be his last Polish movie. This was a drama inspired from his own life but the actor feels like he wants to move on to English language movies in the future.

Vega also feels like despite being such a commercial success he doesn’t get the requisite respect in Poland. He says, “I get bad press because I’m the king of the box office,” he said. “I can’t evolve further [in Poland]. I feel [working in English] is a natural progression in my career.” Vega further says that his filmmaking experience in Poland will be a huge advantage for him when he ventures into the international filmmaking space. He says, “I can make a movie in 13 days for $300,000, I can make a movie on the same schedule, using the same cameras for 10 percent of an Australian budget, not even a Hollywood budget,” he said. “So, I know what I can do with a $10 million budget.”
