Shahid Kapoor will be seen on the big screens in ‘Jersey’ which releases on April 14. He will also be seen sharing screen space with his father, noted actor, Pankaj Kapur. Shahid and his father are working together for the fourth time. The first movie they did together was ‘Mausam’ (2011), then came ‘Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola’ (2013) and the last time these two worked on a movie together was ‘Shaandaar’ (2015).
Now the father-son duo will come together again after 7 years for ‘Jersey’. During the promotions for 'Jersey', at the launch event of the second trailer Shahid Kapoor confessed that when he made his debut a lot of people did not know that he was actor Pankaj Kapur’s son.
Shahid said, "Mujhe laga hi nahi tha ki mai actor ban paaunga. Kyunki zyadatar log jaante hi nahi the ki main dad ka beta hu (I didn't think I could become an actor, because most of the people were not aware that I am my dad's son)."
He also added, “Because my parents were separated, and I didn't use to live in Bombay, I came here very late. My mother was a single mom, and I was a little older while Ishaan (Khatter) was very young. I never told anyone as well (about being Pankaj's son). So, I didn't know if people would accept me or not."
Shahid recalled that after his first movie was released people tried to find out more about his background and that’s when they came to know that he was Pankaj Kapur and Neelima Azeem’s son. He told the press, “I used to think that if my first film doesn't work, then I will be out of the industry. It's a blessing that I am an actor. I know that people would probably not believe it because my parents were technically actors, but they did not know many people."
In any case, Shahid Kapoor is now an established member of the Bollywood film fraternity and he is all set for the release of his latest movie. ‘Jersey’ is the official Bollywood remake of the Telugu movie of the same name, a sports drama that went on to win the National Award as well. The movie also stars Mrunal Thakur who plays the female lead in the film.
